All Manner Of Things Shall Be Well - glicée print
The piece is inspired by Saint Julian of Norwich, a Medieval Anchoress whose writings are the earliest surviving English Language works attributed to a woman. A piece of her writing is embroidered to the base of this piece. Julian lived in permanent seclusion. She is often depicted with her cat. It is said there was a small window through which people could converse with her. I have created a glimpse of Julian through the foliage growing around a sandstone wall in which she is seen holding a hazelnut which was a feature of her writing. The cat in my embroidery is based on a medieval carving found inside Saint Michael with Saint Marys Church, Melbourne Derbyshire.
