The Moon has become a recurrent theme in my work. Based deep in the countryside I have witnessed the moon at its ‘Perigee’ the nearest point it reaches to the earth in its elliptical orbit. A breathtaking globe of light travelling along the valley, transforming the familiar landscape. I have particularly explored the process of cyanotype to create the backgrounds for these pieces. Cyanotype or Blueprint is a type of print where treated fabric is exposed to ultraviolet daylight, which creates shadows and marks from items or shapes placed upon it. Each piece is unique. Other moons have hand dyed backgrounds to explore the rich dark skies. A mixture of free machine embroidery and hand stitching are worked onto these surfaces. Pieces vary in size from 25cm x 25cm up to 90 x 92cm.
