Betty

Picture
Identifying the wildflowers
Betty is the embroidered story of a character I created for my Facebook page. I upload part of the story, rather like a cartoon in the early evening every Friday and have done so for several years. She is free machine embroidered in grey thread onto hand dyed cotton. I purposefully decided she would wear the same outfit for her adventures. A spotted skirt, plain blouse, boots, shoes, Fisherman's jumper and duster coat depending on the season. Betty is inspired by family, friends and in particular the travel writings of Isabella Bird, a 19th century traveller. Inspiration for Betty is rooted in the everyday, the ponderings of life, not on the big events but more the moments in-between.
